Earrings

Now that we're in open beta I figured I'd kick start this comm with a question.

Any lads here have pierced ears? If so, do you keep earrings in them? Any suggestions on how to wear earrings without being read as a girl? My responses will be in the comments.

I got my ears pierced as a "yay, started T!" gift to myself. I know, I'm kind of a freak. When they first were pierced I picked out a pair of basic silver studs which I obviously had to keep in for a few weeks. When I was allowed to switch them I went to a pair of silver double mars earrings I had gotten from a friend. Two-ish years later and one of the double mars stays in all the time. I switch out the other based on my mood, often something with a rainbow theme.

I generally say wear whatever you want so long as they're not dangly or overly "cute" (pink kittens and hearts are probably a bad idea). Most people don't pay much attention to studs so earrings are very rarely the item that keeps you from passing. Now that I do pass I'm getting myself a pair of dangling shears, but those will probably be worn rarely just because I'll be slightly androgynous for at least another two or so years (yay genetics).

I've had my ears pierced since I was three. When I was thirteen my mother and I went to get a second piercing in my ears so I have four holes, and I think that's when the problems really started. I don't wear earrings often and if I decide to I can only wear sleepers (they get infected too easily) I'd love to be able to wear them again, even occasionally but I have a hard time finding a kind I can wear that won't kill me after a couple of hours.

Oh that bites. Have you possibly developed an allergy to something in the earrings? I had to stop wearing anything other than pure gold when I was about 11 because I developed an allergy to the fake stuff.

Yeah I've figured out that I can't go for cheap jewelry. Sterling Silver and gold are fine, but anything else and they just get infected and I'm stuck with the pain for a couple of days. I did have a pair of handcuff earrings that were fine, they were a plated silver and they were too bad, just had to remember to take them out before I fell asleep or there'd be hell to pay in the morning lol.

Yup, sounds rather like me. Do you have the same problem with other types of jewellery? I've found that chokers are the worst because very few of them have sterling clasps. I end up having to switch them out every time I get a new one or else my neck turns bright red.

Yeup, watch straps and certain chains are the worst. Watches I don't wear for another reason (I kill the battery in them within an hour of wearing them).

Honestly, I've no idea lol. I've been doing it since I was a kid. It became a running gag everytime I got a new watch lol.

I've got my ears pierced, once in each lobe. I haven't regularly worn anything in them... They're more there for costume purposes only, when I wear long dangly Lost Boys-ish things. ;)

depending on the look you're going for, some places now carry men's-style earrings with men's jewellery (rings, cuff-links, etc...). Otherwise, stick to stuff punks and 80smusos wear in their heads; as a "no duh", avoid anything especially "lacy", or similar.
